Court-based Witness Service
In London, the Citizens Advice Witness Service provide support to prosecution and defence witnesses at court on the day of trial or hearing.
Trained volunteers at court provide support to help witnesses feel more confident when giving evidence. They will make an on-the-day assessment so all your needs can be identified and supported. Support can include:
- providing information about the court process
- assisting with reading of witness statements and completing expense forms (see section 10 below)
- showing the witness the courtroom
- accompanying witnesses when they give their evidence.
Upon entering the court building, witnesses will be directed by security to the Witness Service waiting room where they will wait before giving evidence.
The Citizens Advice Witness Service website has more details of the support they can provide.
